About​

GERTRUD ANTOINE BARWICK grew up in Germany and moved to Canada in 1959, and has resided in Quebec for the past  fourty years.

First educated in Textile Design at the Academy  of Fine Arts in Kiel, Germany,  Gertrud Antoine now holds a BFA and MA in Art Education and Art Therapy, as well as a Ph.D. in Counselling Psychology.  After twenty-five years of teaching Art,German, and Psychology, she now devotes most of her time to art and volunteer work in the community.

Antoine's playful use of colour is greatly influenced by her mentor Ming Ma ( now Hong  Kong ), a pioneer of colour brilliance in watercolour. Already an established  watercolorist, Antoine continues to explore new mediums and techniques.

Her recent collages have attracted attention, critical recognition and numerous awards. These original compositions engage the imagination with bewitching colour poetics.Themes are racehorses, exotic animals, and lately, returning to her roots as a designer of Haute Couture,  large format  paper sculptures on canvas, using dressmaking tissuepaper.

Antoine's work of Art can be found in many private as well as corporate collections in Canada, USA, Germany, and France.
